Between Worlds: A Support Group for Bicultural Asian Adults

Comedian Ronny Chieng shared on NPR’s Fresh Air that he didn’t tell his parents he was on The Daily Show because he didn’t want to brag about small achievements. He just wanted to do the work…

Businessman and former U.S. presidential candidate Andrew Yang joked on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that his parents continued telling people he was a lawyer long after he had left the profession.

Actor Maggie Q once received a script with a cover letter intended for her agent that read, “Please take a look at the role of ‘The Chink.’” That’s NOT so funny.

Some of these moments may bring a knowing smile. Others may feel painfully familiar.

Do any parts of these stories resonate with you?

Many of the individuals I work with continue to navigate intercultural and intergenerational misunderstandings well into professional adulthood. These layers are often shaped by love, sacrifice, and good intentions, which can make them even harder to untangle. Along the way, they may also encounter racism, both subtle and overt, as well as isolation and the quiet emotional complexity of living between cultures. Even when you know you are not alone, it can still feel vulnerable and difficult to speak about these experiences openly.

Between Worlds is a small, confidential virtual support group for bicultural Asian adults around the world. It offers a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space to share your experiences, feel deeply understood, and connect with others who live between cultures while honoring all parts of who they are.

This is not therapy, but a supportive space for reflection, encouragement, and mutual understanding.

Participants are invited to share stories, explore identity, discuss internal and external expectations, and learn from one another’s resilience and insight. Humor, honesty, and sensitivity are welcome.

Many people find relief simply being in a space where they don’t have to explain or translate their experience.

You do not have to carry these experiences alone.
