Hello and welcome!

If you’ve landed here, it’s likely because someone you know recommended this journal—or you stumbled across it while searching for a therapist or coach. However you arrived, I’m so glad you’re here.

The idea for Start Here…Journal was born in 2011, when I returned to one of my childhood cities—Hong Kong—for the first time as an adult. I spent three enriching years there, and during that time, something important clicked.

Before Hong Kong, my go-to suggestion for clients in New York was free-form journaling between sessions. But more often than not, this idea was met with dread or hesitation: “How do I start? Where do I begin? Can you give me steps?”

Living in Hong Kong, I quickly recognized a familiar stress I’d seen in my New York clients—only intensified. People were juggling endless to-do lists, spiraling through “what if” worries, and comparing themselves on and offline—all while carrying the normal pressures of daily life. Everyone was already stretched thin. Nobody wanted more “homework.”

I understood that feeling deeply, and it motivated me to create the simplest journaling process I could imagine—one that’s productive, fun, and empowering. A process with just enough structure to get you started, prompts to spark reflection without overwhelm, gentle nudges toward manageable action, and plenty of space to rediscover joy. Think of it as something between a blank canvas and a self-help workbook.

When I returned to New York City, I continued sharing this approach with clients around the world and refining it with their honest feedback over the past decade. Thanks to this global collective process—and the creative vision of my friend and extraordinary NYC-based designer from Switzerland, Michael Felber—Start Here…Journal became a reality.

As a nod to where the idea began, the journal’s vibrant colors were inspired by Hong Kong’s hometown hero, Bruce Lee.
